Höskuldsson plays J.S. Bach in Weggis Recital

Dear Flutists,

This is the J.S. Bach A minor, unaccompanied Sonata, or Partita as played by Stefan Höskuldsson, principal flute of The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.

Video - Showcase Recital Series, Galway at Weggis 2009

Stefán Ragnar Höskuldsson
Principal Flute, Metropolitan Opera, New York USA

For those readers who don't yet know this Partita by heart, the sheetmusic is free online here.
Very good footage! Do watch.

Best,
Jen

Very clean tongueing, nice handposition, very secure but for me too superficial and thus not interesting.Too much like a moto perpetuo. A pity I think. I suggest he'd ( every flutist) read Betty Bang's "Partita in A minor with emphasis on the Allemande" Historical Clues and new discoveries for performance. You can get it from Falls House Press. Best wishes.

Mmm, I have to agree with Anon above: I only listened to the first movement: either it's very subtle, and I missed what he's doing with it, or he's not doing anything with it :)

Yes, I agree. Very basic interp, or perhaps to subtle to perceive. I don't really care for this myself, but I thought folks might want to hear what the principal flutist of the NY Met Opera Orchestra sounds like. It demonstrates the level of playing for that sort of employment.
The job has now gone to Denis Bouriakov, if I'm not mistaken, and you're in for a real treat if you hear on youtube the Bouriakov live concert recording of the Bach Chaconne. Let me know what you think of that; I think it's marvellous!! Jen
