Alexander Technique videos for flute players
Dear Flutists,
I found the following videos of Alexander Technique teacher Eileen Troberman to be very effective images for instant understanding of the release of tension in neck, arms and torso (for deep breathing).
I've taken Alexander Tech. before, and these descriptions and videos seem to me to be some of the best possible explanations, and easily put to use at once.
See VIDEO ONE: Effortless deep breathing
See VIDEO TWO: Using The Arms With Ease and Effectiveness
And the one of the best I've ever seen for comprehending the release of tension in the neck (turtle neck), very effective for flutists especially:
VIDEO THREE: Head Neck Back Pattern
Also super-interesting to watch:
Moving Naturally - A Portrait of Marjorie Barstow (video)
Enjoy your freedom!
Update 2016: Videos have all moved to this link; see more.
Best,
Jen

Thank you Jen just what I needed.
I agree those 2 videos are wonderful. For anyone who wants to learn more about the Alexander Technique, they have a very nice website at http://alexandertechnique.com
Ooooh, so good! Thanks for posting!

Just saw this post...I love these videos by Eileen, she really articulates the essentials of the Alexander Technique. She explains very clearly in this video how the head-neck-back relationship affects the whole self. People often think, for example, that if only their shoulders would relax, everything would improve. This video demonstrates quite eloquently how one's entirety-mind and body-are interconnected and how important good functioning of the whole is. Thank you, Jen, for sharing this!
I've written an article about how the Alexander Technique can be applied to flute playing. Feel free to take a look here and let me know what you think.
Thanks so much Nadia! Great! Jen
