Rampal & Baker ~ Doppler Andante & Rondo

Dear Flutists,

This is another youtube video that showed up this week.
Wow. Although these were two of the top flutists in the world just a decade or two ago, standards have really gone UP since this was recorded.

Rampal and Baker play op. 25 and create Doppler Effect. ;>)

Enjoy.
Best,
Jen

Just found your blog, and I think I'm a fan already! I'm a Norwegian flutist student, and I'm playing this peace with a friend. I find it very cheerful and exiting :)Have you played it? Do you think the Rondo should be played so fast?

Hi there to Norway from Canada! Glad you like the blog.
The Doppler Rondo op. 25 can be played faster or slower, depending on what the artists who are playing it feel is right for their own performance. Slower tempo allows more gypsy flair, and show-off-flourishes if you wish. But if you can do the "wild gypsy thing" at a fast tempo, it can be very exciting too! Best, and welcome, Jen.
